Attitude for Success

This article is posted under the Inspiration series …

Your attitude toward life determines life’s attitude toward you. A good attitude makes it possible for you to be successful. Successful people believe “I create my life”, whereas most average people believe “Life happens to me.” If you want to be successful, it is imperative that you believe you are at the steering wheel of your life. If you don’t believe this, then you must inherently believe that you have little or no control over your personal success. That is not a success attitude.

After I spoke at a seminar on the importance of attitude, a young lady asked me what constitutes the qualities of a successful attitude.

This is Peter Ng. Welcome to my motivational series – Awakening the Power within You – Attitude for Success.

Instead of taking responsibility for what’s going on in their lives, people with weak attitude choose to play the role of the victim. A victim’s predominant thought is often “poor me”. Notice that I said they play the role of victim, I didn’t say they are victims. I believe people play the victim because they think it gets them something – such as attention; excuses for not being able to get things done; avoidance of responsibilities; reasons for being unsuccessful; to be lazy; etc.

You may not be able to change other things about yourself, but you can definitely make your attitude more positive. Let’s go back to the question – what constitutes the qualities of a successful attitude:

Belief in Yourself
Many people succeed when others do not believe in them. Positive self-worth is a prime characteristic of a person with successful attitude. When you believe in yourself, you’re free to focus on improving yourself and reaching your potential. The victim of this characteristic is they want others to believe in them, but they rather play the victim role of unbelieving themselves.
If you don’t believe in yourself, you will likely to struggle to focus on anything but yourself because you will always be worried about how you look, what others think about you, and whether you’re going to fail.

Willingness to see the best in Others
We all have expectations of others. I’ve never known a positive person yet who didn’t love people and try to see the good in them. Here the victim’s role would always see other people as taking advantage of them; giving them problems; and lacking cooperation. Remember, if you treat people positively, they tend to treat you the same way. When people don’t treat you well, it’s easy for you not to take their behavior personally because you know you have done your best, and you can move on without letting it affect your attitude.

Seeing Opportunity Everywhere
No matter what the circumstances, successful positive people see opportunities everywhere. Victims would always want to wait for the right opportunity before taking action. Don’t wait until you feel good to take action; take action and you will feel real good.

Focus on Solutions
Successful people focus their time and attention on solutions, not problems. Anybody and everybody can see problem. But successful people maintain a solution mindset, seeing solution in every problem and possibility in every impossibility. Victims focus on problems and stopped there.

Desire to Give
Successful people focus their time and energy on what they can give to others, not just in terms of money, but knowledge; helping people to get back in their lives; coaching people to reach their higher potential. Victims loves to play the role of keeping information, refused to share knowledge, and intimidating others. It’s not what you have that makes a difference. It’s what you do with what you have.

Persistence
When you have a positive attitude, it’s easier to be persistent. If you think success is just round the corner, you keep going. When you believe everything turns out for the best, you don’t mind a little discomfort. Victim’s role is to give up on everything easily.

The final characteristic of successful people is their willingness to take responsibility for their own lives. And they know they need the right positive attitude to make things happen!
